The other day I went to kovvur. It was an opportunity to see the river Godavari again. I contemplated about the river on the same lines that Huck Finn does in the novel “The adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Huck sees the Mississippi as awesome, grand and still. Perhaps there is a language that unites the rivers. A river is not just a stream of water but a life, flowing and flowing, taking in the currents of light.
Standing there on the banks of the Godavari, watching the river spread itself into several channels; I could hear the words of Huck Finn echoing in my mind.
The night when he gets down to sleep under the night sky with the raft floating slowly across the Mississippi. “It really is a glorious, exalted existence.”
