Revisiting

A look back, not to return, but to understand — and to move forward more gently.

How many years have passed
Since I last met this sea of silence
The dark mountains drenched in woody fragrance
The magnificent Eucalyptus trees
blowing hard in the wild breeze
the deep valleys on the edge of where
I sat to nibble a thousand thoughts
In the scattered rocks, on the greenish moss
I leaned to listen to inner voices
Lost in mirth and merry youth
Now I’m mellowed, dumb and daft
The great Elms are still there
the misty dew of a winter morning
the running brook and the bleating sheep
I’m here under the halo of the setting Sun
on revisiting Horsley
All around me is silence
the everlasting presence of Nature
If it could permeate
to quench the tempest in my heart
As darkness waded in, I wished
I could melt, dissolve into the enveloping blackness
To reign in the sea of silence
from the sky to the ocean.
