Yesterday KNR was talking about the 1977 cyclone in A.P; the Diviseema Tragedy. The topic came up from the Sardar Sarovar project which KNR had visited that day. He said he remembers it all even now, 1977 when he was just 14 years old, he had seen it. Tragedy struck A.P that year. His Grandmother was talking about her days when the tidal waves (that struck the villages that day) were last seen a good 90 years ago.

My interest in literature began with adventure stories read aloud in school and grew through teachers who could bring a text to life. From those early books came a lifelong engagement with writers, stories and the endless possibilities of reading.
I had visited this place in the year 1985. We had heard about this from friends and others. A large group had set out at that time with my Uncle. I remember having traveled by a Van. There was no road as such and we had to negotiate stones and boulders en route.
The other day I went to kovvur. It was an opportunity to see the river Godavari again. I contemplated about the river on the same lines that Huck Finn does in the novel “The adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Huck sees the Mississippi as awesome, grand and still. Perhaps there is a language that unites the rivers.
