Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre
A close reading of Jane Eyre as a novel of conscience, independence, moral resolve, deprivation and the sustaining presence of nature.

Of love and other demons by Marquez took me into familiar territory; the territory in my cerebral space which is especially reserved for the fictionary tales of Marquez. This space gets activated as the indicators that receive signals begin to infuse my creative imagination, for reading a manuscript from Marquez is like awakening my dormant…
How time passes; I went to Chennai on Friday to attend a meeting. We were put up at the State Guest house Chepauk. I could find some time to adjust some visits into the itinerary. We worshiped Lord Shiva at the Kabaleeswaran Koil Mylapore, the center of Brahmin power in Chennai. I had visited this temple some good 40 years ago.
Arrived in Dehradun on Wednesday evening. The journey from Delhi to Dehradun is very short. We arrived here on a chilly evening. The weather here is very cold. We were given accommodation in the Golden Jubilee hostel. The food is bland, la canteen style and it is mostly potato and paneer. The IIRS campus is beautiful with a number of trees inside. We could see fir and mango trees mostly. The lecture halls and auditorium are state of the art
Years ago I had gone for an inquiry to a far off place in my district. It was to identify some land and submit my report to the Collector. I asked my driver Khajavali to get ready for the journey. The next day he was ready with the files and maps .We started early in the morning to reach the place because it was a long journey.

His association with Nature had supplied him his true education. This is followed by his eager political enthusiasm for establishing a just society and his passion for liberty. When these hopes are…
Yesterday KNR was talking about the 1977 cyclone in A.P; the Diviseema Tragedy. The topic came up from the Sardar Sarovar project which KNR had visited that day. He said he remembers it all even now, 1977 when he was just 14 years old, he had seen it. Tragedy struck A.P that year. His Grandmother was talking about her days when the tidal waves (that struck the villages that day) were last seen a good 90 years ago.
The other day I went to kovvur. It was an opportunity to see the river Godavari again. I contemplated about the river on the same lines that Huck Finn does in the novel “The adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Huck sees the Mississippi as awesome, grand and still. Perhaps there is a language that unites the rivers.
An enthralling and riveting work. It is a biography which does justice not just to Charlotte but also to the sisters, Haworth in Keighley, Bradford, and the rest of the West Yorkshire countryside. So much of the personal character; their behaviour, the world view of the Bronte sisters was shaped by the natural scene around…
Is there something called perfection about anything? When the world around is constantly evolving and Language and Literature which are the mirror to this world are forever dynamic, perfection is a distant dream. Rather assuming such a state is itself a fallacy. A real student will rather apply to the task with sincerity and dedication.
