Wood side

I’m off for a walk
Up the hills and in the forests
With the trees and the plants
The leaves and the grass
Going straight up
Unlike the butterfly
That darts forth
Or the soft wood bird
That sits atop
I move with a purpose
Of trimming my belly
The leaves are still
Basking in the beautiful day light
I gasp for a breath of fresh air
Rarefied and uncluttered
There are a few worms
Crawling in the soil
Fed by the fresh rains
The raindrops are still on the leaves
The cicadas and sparrows coo in union
The bright red sun is out
The majestic red sanders are shedding their bark
The breath of a thousand trees
And the coldness of a winter morning
I crane my neck to look at the aluminium whiteness of the morning sky.
