  • Mona Madam

I remember Mona Madam as a cheerful, generous teacher who loved children instinctively. To me, she was never merely a teacher; she showed how naturally learning and affection could belong together.

  • Musing about Golconda

The dream of Quli, Jewel by the Moosi What words I have to sing your praise I’m not witness to your glory and pride. I’m awed by your marvelous tales of Quli, Ibrahim and Tanishah. I have watched the sunset over the Dil Aghni In the orange yellow sadness of the evening I can listen…

  • What is the one piece of poetry/writing that you’re proud of and would love the world to read?

The Sun was up before any of us I had a notion of The sun shining on the yellow mounds of rice I also had a notion of a slanting ray Of light in the coconut grove A phosphorescent glow Or may be a perfect profile Only I could not see The bounty of nature…

  • Empty mind

What is the use? Of trying to force some lines Out of a mind Cleaned and emptied Of ideas Like the bowl of a beggar Would it be poetry? Being written for fame Or money The leaves rustle Ripping the silence of the moon The branches sway Casting shadows on the asphalt floor.

  • Sir – I

The telephone was ringing incessantly. It was not yet 10pm or I would have unplugged the connection – A call in the might meant same urgent business. I could imagine the speaker on the other side. I answered with some worry in my mind. “Sir – I’m the Collector’s P.A. Sir wants you to come…
