Midnight Sojourn

A sudden rain springs forth
Inside the house the sound of the drops
Is drowned by the breeze of the air conditioner
It is rain at dusk
A group of school girls are surprised
They sprint ahead in a cloud of giggle-gaggle
An elderly man walks with dignity
As the drops drench his shirt
The rhythm continues
Like a sing song
In an ebb and flow
Of density and intensity
The ringlets have formed
Buoying up the drains
And bringing forth an aroma
Of jasmines and stench
A darkness sets in
The rain loses its color
Submerged in a shroud of blackness
The cattle moo inside the sheds
The rain has sieved through the roofs
After a fury of an hour
It has subsided
The cool breeze sprinkles
Icicles on the leaves
Dark clouds have gathered
In the skies for a
Midnight sojourn
